What is Reiki?

Reiki is a healing technique originating in Japan that promotes healing, inner peace and overall wellness. "ReiKi" is generally interpreted to mean "Universal Life Force Energy." I like to describe it as acupuncture without the needles. Acupuncture and Reiki are, in reality, very different modalities, but both are based on the concept of an energetic life force flowing through all living beings.

During a Reiki session, people usually lie down on a massage table, fully clothed. Reiki can be practiced hands on or hands free, depending on the client's preference. With hands on, the practitioner uses gentle touch to focus the energy on the body. Hands free would involve the practitioner hovering their hands over the client. The Reiki practitioner channels the energy flow through the client's body, sending emotional, physical, mental, or spiritual healing as needed. Reiki is completely safe and noninvasive. It's considered a complimentary therapy and can be used alone or in conjunction with other medical interventions.

Reiki can help a number of symptoms. A common effect is a reduction in stress and anxiety.
